Knowledge is Power

Learning can be hard work, especially if it’s a mandatory subject that you are not interested in, like during your school years. Fortunately for me, the subject I was forced to study is fascinating.

When I first discovered that my “condition” was a result of the mind and body working together I was firstly relieved as I had finally found a reason, a root cause. Secondly, I was intrigued and wanted to learn as much as possible.

This learning journey still continues today and if it makes sense, the more I learn, the more I realise how much I don’t know. More importantly, as I’ve said before, I’m never going to know it all so I might as well share this knowledge and my experience as I progress along this journey.

I am also aware of the fact that we are all different and that what works for me may not work for others. That said, there is no way of me knowing whether any of the healing techniques I have tried did actually help or not. Everything I have tried has lead me to where I am now so in a way they are all part of my own healing journey.

Once you start learning about the mind and body you will start to put your pieces of your puzzle together just like I did and am still doing. Think of it like a huge jigsaw puzzle, you are collecting the pieces as you go but there is no box so you don’t know what the finished puzzle will look like. To be honest, I don’t think any of us will ever complete the puzzle but the more pieces you collect and the more pieces you join together, you will start to see something forming. It will start slowly but as you get more pieces you will gain momentum.

The other thing about learning is that the brain is like a muscle Each time you use it, each time you learn something new you are creating more connections in the brain. So the learning process is actually a physical event. The new knowledge you gain is represented as new brain cell connections.

Important note : As you gather this knowledge you are becoming more consciously aware of the physical and emotional processes working in harmony. There may be processes working to protect you such as those described by Dr Sarno which I covered in a previous blog. This is where your subconscious mind is working to protect you by distracting you from traumatic emotions with physical pain. The fact that you understand this at a conscious level is not going to stop it though. You also need to get this knowledge into your subconscious and that is not as easy as you may think.

So, as well as gaining knowledge you also need to understand how both the conscious and sub-conscious mind learn. There are many depths to the human mind and the different components and I am no expert but having an awareness of the differences between mind, thought, the brain, consciousness, sub-consciousness certainly helps.

I’ll cover this in more detail in a later post but for now just remember that when you were in school the learning process consisted of a lot of repetition. Remember reciting the times tables over and over again ? that’s how the human brain learns after the age of 7. So, if you want to learn something and want it to “stick” read it, watch it, listen to it over and over again. Eventually this knowledge will get through to the sub-conscious mind as well.

Finally, I have read a lot of books, watched way too much youtube and listened to 100’s of podcasts. That doesn’t mean that you have to. I can only share my journey, I’ve found this subject to be fascinating and so I’ve thrown myself into it more than I should have …maybe. What I do know is that knowledge really is power and as Dr Joe Dispenza rightly said….

….. “Knowledge is power, but knowledge about yourself is self empowerment”

Remember, you are learning about yourself. This is your journey and it will take you where you need to go. But get learning, create those new cell connections, work that muscle in your head.
