Day 3 – Cold Water Therapy

I’m actually looking forward to my morning plunges now. I don’t think about the fact that I am getting into cold water, it’s more about getting into my own space for a few minutes each morning where I can set myself up mentally and physically for the day.

I’ve been listening to some more podcasts from various people talking to Wim Hof. It’s more interesting this time around as I’m actually doing the work at the same time. It’s great to hear exactly what is going on in my body both during and after the cold water sessions. I’ve also checked out what stats I can get from my fitbit as I will be interested to see over time how this will affect things like my resting heart rate, sleep duration and quality etc.

As with yesterday’s plunge I added 30 seconds, so this morning was 3 mins. During one of the podcasts Wim was asked how long you should sit in the cold water for. Apparently, just 2 minutes is enough to start changes within your body and anything beyond that will increase the physical benefits and also the mental ones. I’m certainly feeling the mental benefits already and there are signs of some physical changes, but it’s still early day’s. It’s a great motivator though knowing what is going on inside.

Listening to Wim again reminded me of a recent TV show where a number of celebrities were put through the Wim Hof experience. It’s on BBC iplayer – “Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof“. Hosted by Holly Willoughby and Lee Mack, well worth a watch.

I didn’t take a video today as I was using the stopwatch on my phone. I was joined by the Cat though who kept an eye on me to make sure I wasn’t cheating.
